February's Webinar will be "Understanding environmental commodities: RECs and GHG offsets"The Webinar will be held at 12:00 PM EST Wednesday, January 28, 2010 and presented by the Institute's very own Michael Gillenwater.

Michael Gillenwater co-founded the Greenhouse Gas Management Institute, and serves as its Dean and Executive Director. Michael has dedicated his career to the development of the policies and infrastructure needed to produce highly credible environmental information that can serve as the basis of market and other compliance mechanisms, especially monitoring and verification policies and management and reporting systems for greenhouse gases and other ecosystem services.

Michael has worked on greenhouse gas emissions and climate change policy since 1995. He co-developed the U.S. Greenhouse Gas Inventory Program within the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Michael’s work at EPA concentrated on development of national systems for producing high quality greenhouse gas emission inventories and on designing the international compliance process under the United National Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Kyoto Protocol. He was lead author of the Inventory of U.S. Greenhouse Gas Emissions and Sinks reports published from 1997 through 2003.

Julie Fox Gorte

March's Webinar will be "Climate Change Disclosure: Origins and Implications of the SEC Guidance and Beyond". The Webinar will be held at 12:00 PM EST Wednesday, March 31, 2010 and presented by Julie Fox Gorte, Ph.D.

Julie is the Senior Vice President for Sustainable Investing at Pax World Management LLC. She oversees environmental, social, and governance-related research on prospective and current investments as well as Pax’s shareholder advocacy and work on public policy advocacy.

Dr. Gorte serves on the boards of Ceres, the Center for a New American Dream, the Endangered Species Coalition, and the Pinchot Institute. She serves as the co-chair of the Asset Management Working Group of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiatives, and is on the steering committee for UNEP’s workstream on biodiversity. Dr. Gorte served as a member of the Adaptation and Response Working Group of the Maryland Climate Commission.

Prior to joining Pax, Dr. Gorte served as Vice President and Chief Social Investment Strategist at Calvert. Her experience before she joined the investment world in 1999 includes nearly 14 years as Senior Associate and Project Director at the Congressional Office of Technology Assessment, Vice President for Economic and Environmental Research at The Wilderness Society, Program Manager for Technology Programs in the Environmental Protection Agency’s policy office, and Senior Associate at the Northeast-Midwest Institute. Dr. Gorte received her Bachelor of Science in Forest Management at Northern Arizona University, and a Master of Science and Ph.D from Michigan State in resource economics.

Katherine Blue

April's Webinar will be "New and Emerging EPA Regulatory Developments and the Link to Carbon Accounting". This one-hour Webinar will be held at 12:00 PM EDT Wednesday, April 28, 2010 and presented by Katherine Blue.

Ms. Blue is a Principal Consultant and leads Trinity Consultants' national Climate Change practice. In this role, Ms. Blue provides advisement to industrial clients through tracking regulatory developments, implementing carbon management strategies, creating greenhouse gas inventories, identifying emission reductions, and publicly reporting sustainability and climate change performance. Ms. Blue has over sixteen years of air quality consulting expertise and has been practicing in the climate change arena since 2001. Ms. Blue graduated with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and an M.E. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of South Carolina.

David Rich

The May Webinar will be held on June 1 due to speaker availability and is entitled, "Overview of New GHG Protocol Standards for Product and Supply Chain (Scope 3) Accounting". This one-hour Webinar will be held at 12:00 PM EDT Tuesday, June 1, 2010 and presented by David Rich.

David Rich is an Associate with the GHG Protocol Initiative at the World Resources Institute. He focuses on the development of greenhouse gas accounting and reporting standards and emissions registries. Previously, David worked with the Climate Registry to develop a common GHG reporting protocol for use by companies across North America. He is currently developing new GHG Protocol standards for product life cycle and supply chain (scope 3) emissions accounting through a global multi-stakeholder process. He also focuses on mandatory GHG reporting to support regulatory policies, such as cap-and-trade. David holds a Masters degree in Energy and Environmental Analysis from Boston University and a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley.

Tom Baumann

Mr. Baumann has been a leading expert in the field of GHG for the past 10 years. Tom has led progressively senior positions in the private sector, public sector and not-for-profit sector. He has 10 years of experience working with climate change and clean energy companies to support technical and management solutions that achieve the “double dividend” of environmental and economic benefits. In 2007 Tom co-founded the GHG Management Institute. Within the Institute, Tom fulfills the role of Director, Strategic Solutions and Partnerships.

As CEO of ClimateCHECK he is responsible for establishing, leading and managing a climate change services corporation. Tom has experience in consulting, validation, verification, training, and management on carbon-neutral products, company and supply chain carbon footprints, new GHG technologies, GHG projects, company GHG inventory and management systems, as well as GHG programs. Anja Kollmuss

Anja Kollmuss

Anja works in the Climate and Energy Program at SEI focusing on national and international climate mitigation policy analysis. She currently researches cap-and-trade and carbon offset programs and has written several comprehensive reviews of offset programs. She maintains the Carbon Offset Research and Education- CORE website. Anja has worked on researching and implementing low-carbon strategies for over 15 years and has extensive experience in energy-efficiency strategies for residential buildings. She was a contributing author to the IPCCs Third Assessment Report were she researched the climate impacts of waste management. She is also the SEI-US communications manager.

Anja did her undergraduate studies at the ETH in Switzerland and at Harvard in Biology and Environmental Studies. She holds an MA in Urban and Environmental Planning from Tufts University.

Carrie Lee

Carrie Lee

Carrie works in the Climate and Energy program at the Seattle office of SEI’s US center. Her research focuses on forest and agricultural climate mitigation strategies, carbon offsets, bio-energy production, and ecosystem ecology and management. She serves as an advisor to the Western Climate Initiative's Offset Committee and is a lead author of SEI's new book published by Earthscan Ltd. in March 2010, "Handbook of Carbon Offset Programs - Trading Systems, Funds, Protocols and Standards".

Carrie received her M.S. in Forest Resources and Interdisciplinary Policy Dimensions of Earth Science from the University of Washington and was honored with fellowships from the Program on Climate Change and the Program on the Environment. Her master’s thesis evaluated the forest stand and Washington State level feasibility of methanol production from woody biomass. She received a B.A. in biology from Carleton College in 2001.

Paul Stepan is an industry expert on the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC). He works for Camco, a leading climate change and sustainable development company, heading up their response to the policy. He has worked with a number of major corporates and large public sector organisations preparing them for the CRC. He also regularly lectures on behalf of trade associations and conducts training events for the Carbon Trust.
